The Meta Ad Library, previously known as the Facebook Ad Library, was launched in 2019 to increase transparency in advertising. It covers a wide range of ads, including social issues, elections, politics, and branded content. The library provides detailed information about ads, such as their active status, impressions, and estimated audience size.
To access the library, visit https://www.facebook.com/ads/library/
and select a location, ad category, and keyword in the Search Ads section. You can further refine your search results by applying filters such as language, advertiser, platforms, media type, and active status.
For ads related to Social Issues, Elections, or Politics, additional filters and details are available, including delivery by region, disclaimer, and estimated audience size. These ads are visible in the library for seven years.
Ads delivered to the European Union are subject to additional transparency requirements due to legal and regulatory standards. When searching for these ads, you can access extra information like the number of ads that use the same creative and text, and details about the advertiser.
For All Other Ads, you can see an overview of the active and inactive ads, but the details are limited compared to political ads or those delivered to the European Union.
The library also includes a section for Branded Content, which refers to paid partnerships where one party creates content to promote another.
The Meta Ad Library can be used to understand how a client is currently using ads, or as inspiration for your own advertising strategies. However, it doesn't provide details on how much was spent on ads (outside of the European Union) or how they performed.
