Meta has expanded Meta AI translations, a free tool that automatically dubs and lip syncs reels into another language, helping creators reach global audiences. This feature uses the sound and tone of the creator's voice for authentic translations and matches lip movements to the translated audio, making it appear as if the creator is speaking the new language. Users can control the feature by turning it on or off and reviewing or removing translations anytime.
Availability and Languages
Meta AI translations currently support English to Spanish and Spanish to English, with more languages planned. The feature is accessible to Facebook creators with 1,000+ followers and all Instagram public accounts.
How It Works on Facebook
Before publishing a reel, creators can enable Meta AI translations and lip syncing with a toggle. They can also choose to review translations before publishing via notifications or the Professional Dashboard. Translated reels display in viewers' preferred languages, with an option for viewers to disable translations. Creators can track views by language to gauge translation performance.
Best Practices for Translated Videos
- Use face-to-camera videos, speaking clearly and facing forward.
- On Facebook, translations support up to two speakers; avoid overlapping speech.
- Minimize background noise or music.
- Maintain consistency to build a new audience in another language.
Uploading Custom Translated Audio Tracks
Facebook Page owners can upload up to 20 custom dubbed audio tracks per reel, enabling connection with diverse audiences. This is done through the Reels composer in Meta Business Suite by selecting “Upload your own translated audio tracks,” uploading tracks, and assigning languages. Tracks can be added, replaced, or removed before or after publishing. Viewers hear the reel in their selected language, similar to Meta AI translations.
