Danny Sullivan, the Google Search Liaison, has acknowledged the feedback from the community regarding the March 2024 core update and overall search quality. He admitted that there are areas where Google could improve, especially in recognizing high-quality content from smaller or independent sites.
Sullivan proposed two specific areas for improvement:
- Better recognition of great content that is currently not well recognized by Google's systems.
- Offering better guidance and possibly better reporting to steer away from unhelpful practices learned by others.
However, Sullivan emphasized that these improvements cannot happen overnight and that he alone cannot implement them. As a liaison, he can suggest, encourage, and recommend, but the final decisions lie with other teams. He also mentioned that changes to the algorithm often involve trade-offs and balancing various factors.
Sullivan's role, as he described, is to channel external feedback to the relevant teams and provide advocacy and recommendations. He also hinted at the possibility of an automated action viewer. Despite the challenges, Sullivan remains committed to improving Google's search quality.
