New Interactive Audio Experience
NotebookLM has introduced an experimental feature allowing users to interact directly with AI hosts during Audio Overviews. Users can now:
- Create new Audio Overviews
- Activate Interactive mode (BETA)
- Join conversations using voice commands
- Ask questions for customized responses based on source materials
The platform has generated over 350 years worth of Audio Overviews in the past three months, demonstrating significant user engagement.
Redesigned Interface
Google has implemented a new three-panel interface design that streamlines content management and generation:
- Sources panel: Manages project information
- Chat panel: Enables AI-powered discussions with citations
- Studio panel: Facilitates creation of Study Guides, Briefing Docs, and Audio Overviews
NotebookLM Plus Introduction
Google has launched NotebookLM Plus, a premium subscription offering enhanced features:
- 5x higher limits on Audio Overviews, notebooks, and sources
- Customizable notebook response styles and lengths
- Team notebook sharing with analytics
- Advanced privacy and security features
The premium service will be available through Google Workspace or Google Cloud for enterprises, educational institutions, and organizations. Google plans to include it in Google One AI Premium in early 2025.
The platform now features the experimental version of Gemini 2.0 Flash, enhancing its AI capabilities, though Google notes that the interactive features may experience occasional response delays and accuracy issues during the beta phase.
