Meta announced that it will cease allowing social issue, electoral, or political ads in the European Union (EU) due to the EU’s Transparency and Targeting of Political Advertising (TTPA) regulation. This regulation imposes significant obligations that create complexity and legal uncertainty for advertisers and platforms in the EU. However, ads related to these topics will still be permitted outside the EU, and Meta will maintain its verification and transparency tools globally.
The ban on such ads will take effect on October 6, 2025, at 6:00 PM CET / 9:00 AM PT. Advertisers are required to update their error handling for the following affected endpoints:
POST /{ad_account_id}/campaigns
POST /{ad_account_id}/ads
POST /{ad_account_id}/adsets
POST /{ad_account_id}/adcreatives
For further details, advertisers can refer to the Marketing API developer documentation and Meta's Newsroom regarding this decision.
