Google has introduced AI Overviews in its search results, a feature that has sparked dissatisfaction among users due to the lack of an option to disable it. In contrast, Microsoft's Bing allows users to turn off its AI feature, Copilot, through a simple toggle in the search settings.
Michael Schechter, a Vice President at Microsoft, highlighted this difference by sharing a screenshot of Bing's settings. The settings include options to choose whether to see Copilot responses on the search results page and whether to have Copilot open when scrolling or swiping up at the top of the page.
Danny Sullivan, the Google Search Liaison, acknowledged the user demand for an option to disable AI Overviews. He mentioned that he has encouraged Google to add this feature, but made no promises. Sullivan suggested using the new Web filter to remove AI Overviews, but noted that this action also removes all other features.
