Apple to Launch AI-Enabled Safari Browser with New Operating Systems

Intelligent Search is a new AI-powered tool in Safari 18 that leverages Apple's on-device AI technology, specifically the Ajax language-learning model, to identify topics and key phrases within a webpage for summarization. It is designed to enhance browsing by providing summaries of articles and identifying important content. This feature must be manually activated from the page controls menu and is part of Apple's efforts to integrate AI-driven features into their browser.

The Web Eraser feature in Safari 18 allows users to remove specific portions of web pages, such as banner ads, images, text, or entire sections. To use this feature, you can access it from the new page controls menu within Safari. Once you erase content, the changes are persistent, meaning Safari will remember the modifications even after the tab or window is closed. Upon revisiting the page, Safari will inform you that the page has been modified and give you the option to revert the changes.

The Safari UI in Safari 18 will be updated with a new page controls menu that consolidates several options previously located across different menus and the Share Sheet. This includes zoom options, webpage settings for privacy controls, content blocking options, extension shortcuts, and access to the new AI and erasure tools. The goal is to make these options more discoverable and accessible by placing them in one central location in the Address Bar.

iOS 18 and macOS 15 are expected to be announced at Apple's annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 10.

Safari 18 is expected to debut later in 2024, alongside internal builds of Apple's next-generation operating system updates, iOS 18 and macOS 15.
