WhatsApp introduces Message Summaries, an AI-powered feature that helps users quickly catch up on unread messages by providing private, concise summaries. Using Meta AI with Private Processing technology, the feature ensures that neither Meta nor WhatsApp can access message content or summaries, protecting user privacy. Only the user sees the summaries, and other chat participants are unaware when summaries are generated.
Privacy and Control
Message Summaries is optional and off by default, allowing users to choose whether to enable it. Users can also manage which chats use AI features through Advanced Chat Privacy settings, maintaining control over their experience.
Availability
The feature is currently rolling out in English for users in the United States, with plans to expand to other languages and countries later in the year.
