WhatsApp emphasizes the importance of private conversations on devices, offering default end-to-end encryption for personal messages and calls to ensure a secure experience. To enhance protection for individuals facing sophisticated cyber attacks, such as journalists or public figures, WhatsApp is introducing a new feature called Strict Account Settings. This feature acts like a lockdown, applying the most restrictive security settings with a few taps.
It automatically blocks attachments and media from unknown senders, silences calls from unknown contacts, and restricts other app functions to increase security. Users can enable Strict Account Settings by navigating to WhatsApp Settings > Privacy > Advanced. This feature is part of WhatsApp’s ongoing efforts to guard against advanced cyber threats.
