New changes in Meta Marketing API that enable version auto-upgrade

The MAPI version auto-upgrade feature is a new functionality that will be launched in May 2024 to enhance the API experience. It is designed to automatically upgrade calls to the next available version for Marketing API (MAPI) endpoints that are not affected by changes between versions. This means that if an endpoint is not affected by the deprecation of the current version and the introduction of a new one, the platform will upgrade the call instead of failing the request.

The MAPI version auto-upgrade feature is scheduled to become available starting from May 2024.

To confirm if a call has been auto-upgraded, you should check the API response header. An example notification header you might see is: 'X-Ad-Api-Version-Warning: The call has been auto-upgraded to v17.0 as v16.0 has been deprecated'. This header indicates that the call was automatically upgraded to a newer version due to the deprecation of the older version.

To opt-out of the MAPI version auto-upgrade, you need to navigate to Settings > Ads API Version Settings under the Marketing API App Product card in your app's settings and disable the feature.

If your app is calling an endpoint that is affected by the changes in the next version, such as POST /{adset-id} with v17.0 after its deprecation on May 14th, 2024, the API request will fail because the auto-upgrade does not apply to endpoints affected by the next available version, v18.0. In such cases, you must manually update your API calls to the new version.
