Snapchat is introducing enhanced location sharing features to its Family Center, a hub for parental controls. These new features aim to improve family connectivity and safety.
Location Sharing Through Family Center
Parents and caregivers can now request their teen's live location through a new button in Family Center. Teens can also share their location back, ensuring everyone in the family is aware of each other's whereabouts once they opt-in.
Enhanced Settings Visibility
Parents will soon have visibility into their teen's location-sharing settings, allowing them to see which friends their teen shares their location with on Snap Map. This feature aims to facilitate informed conversations about location-sharing choices within families.
Travel Notifications
Families can select up to three specific locations, such as home, school, or the gym, on Snap Map. Parents will receive notifications when their teen arrives at or departs from these designated locations, providing peace of mind about their teen's movements.
Additional Safety Reminders
Location sharing on Snapchat is off by default and can only be shared with accepted friends. Snapchat will introduce in-app reminders for users who share their location with all their friends, prompting them to review their settings when adding new friends outside their real-world network.
These features will be rolled out over the coming weeks, enhancing the safety and connectivity of families using Snapchat.
