Perplexity AI has introduced a new feature called Perplexity Pages, launched on May 30, which allows users to create and share in-depth articles, detailed reports, and informative guides. These pages can be customized with sections, videos, images, and targeted to different audience levels (beginner, advanced, anyone). Users can also share links to these pages and enable follow-up questions or convert conversation threads into pages.
Content from Perplexity Pages is being indexed by Google and appearing in AI Overviews and featured snippets. This has raised concerns by SEOs about potential spam, as it seems like one search engine is spamming another.
Concerns exist about the long-term handling of AI-generated content by Google. Historical precedents, such as the March 2024 core update and the brief surge and drop of LinkedIn Collaborative Articles, suggest that this tactic might be short-lived.
Perplexity Pages provide a new method for sharing and interacting with AI-generated content. However, their future in Google’s search results is uncertain due to potential abuse and past trends in similar initiatives.
