Google has rolled out a significant update to PageSpeed Insights (PSI), introducing clear visibility into the data collection period for Chrome User Experience Report (CrUX) metrics. This update comes in response to developer feedback, as confirmed by Barry Pollard, Web Performance Developer Advocate at Google Chrome.
The updated PSI now displays CrUX data representing the 75th percentile of real user visits across a 28-day rolling period with a two-day delay. For example, when running a test on January 5, the data encompasses the period from December 7 to January 3. This information is now readily available within the PSI interface, eliminating the need to access Chrome DevTools for temporal context.
The temporal context of CrUX data plays a vital role in measuring real-world user experience and affects Google search rankings. This enhanced transparency enables developers to more effectively monitor the impact of their site optimization efforts.
This PSI enhancement marks a significant step forward in making CrUX data more accessible and interpretable for developers focused on performance optimization and search ranking improvements.
