Google Search has altered the visibility of the search results count for a query. Previously displayed under the search bar, the results count is now accessible by clicking the "tools" button. Google has been experimenting with removing the results count since as early as 2016, and it was also removed from the SGE results a year ago.
Google has stated multiple times that the results count is only an estimate and not a reliable figure for conducting thorough research and SEO audits. Despite this, many SEOs use the results count to estimate keyword competitiveness, audit indexation, and for other purposes. If this feature is completely removed, it may cause discontent among SEOs. However, if the results count is not accurate, Google might decide to remove it regardless.
