Ensuring Age-Appropriate Experiences on Meta Quest

Re-entering your birthdate on Meta Quest is required to confirm your age. This is done to ensure that all users have access to age-appropriate tools, content, and protections on the Meta Quest Platform.

To set up a teen Meta account on Quest (ages 13-17), the profile is automatically set to private, and the teen must approve follower requests. Default settings also hide the teen's activity, active status, and the app in use from others unless the teen chooses to share them. Parental supervision tools are available to help parents customize their teen's experience and promote safety in VR.

Preteen Meta accounts (ages 10-12) are called parent-managed accounts and have the most restrictive settings. Parents must set up the account and give approval for account creation. Profiles are private by default, and settings for activity, active status, and app usage are also private. Parents control app downloads, usage, and can block specific apps.

The User Age Group APIs on Meta Quest are designed to help developers understand the ages of their users. When an app is launched on the platform, these APIs allow Meta to share whether the app is being used by a preteen, teen, or adult account. The app can then tailor the experience to be age-appropriate and protect young users' data.
