Apple is expected to announce a deal to integrate Google Gemini with its devices this fall, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. This comes after the integration of ChatGPT and aligns with long-standing rumors about iOS 18 chatbots. Apple software chief Craig Federighi hinted at a Google deal, and there are also rumors about a potential deal with Anthropic, though Meta’s Llama chatbot was dismissed due to its inadequacy.
Apple Intelligence is set to debut in beta form this fall, focusing on generating direct profits rather than just enhancing hardware. Subscription-only features might be introduced eventually, but this won’t happen immediately. Initially, Apple Intelligence will be exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, and its effectiveness in driving significant iPhone upgrades remains uncertain.
In the interim, Apple will benefit financially from in-app purchases related to its AI partners’ chatbot subscriptions. Third-party AI services will provide more options for users, even if these options are variations on algorithmic data reconstruction.
