The Gemini app introduces new features to enhance personalization and privacy. It now references past chats to learn user preferences, enabling more natural and relevant conversations. This personalization is available initially on the 2.5 Pro model in select countries and will expand to other models and regions. Users can toggle this feature on or off in the app settings.
Personalized Responses Using Past Chats
Gemini’s new setting allows it to remember key details from previous conversations, making interactions feel like collaborating with a partner who knows your interests. Examples include personalized birthday party themes based on favorite comic characters, book recommendations aligned with past interests, and tailored YouTube content ideas related to Japanese culture.
Temporary Chats for Privacy
A new feature called Temporary Chats lets users have quick, one-off conversations without influencing future chats or training Google’s AI models. These chats do not appear in recent chats or activity logs and are retained for up to 72 hours only to respond and process feedback.
Enhanced Data Control Settings
The app updates how it handles user-uploaded content like files and photos. The "Gemini Apps Activity" setting will be renamed "Keep Activity," which, when enabled, allows a sample of uploads to improve Google services. Users can disable this or use Temporary Chats to avoid data use. Additionally, a new control lets users decide if audio, video, and screen shares via mic or Gemini Live are used to improve services; this is off by default.
Transparency and User Control
Google emphasizes transparency and control, providing tools for users to manage their data preferences anytime. More information is available in the Gemini Apps Privacy Hub.
