YouTube has initiated a live test of its new generative AI feature, a content "inspiration" tool, available to a select group of YouTube Studio users. The tool uses AI to generate content inspiration, assisting creators in deciding what content to produce next.
The feature has been under internal testing for some time, and the platform's Chief Product Officer, Johanna Voolich, has provided further insight into the process. The tool offers content pointers and notes based on viewer trends to aid creators in brainstorming ideas for their upcoming clips.
For instance, if a creator wishes to make a video about travel in Portugal, they can input this as the topic prompt. The system will then highlight related videos and provide suggestions on thematic content that could be created, even offering a full, downloadable content outline.
YouTube believes this tool will enable creators to better understand the topics their viewers are interested in and provide fresh perspectives for creative concepts. However, there's a concern that the recommendations might be largely derivative since they are based on existing content.
Despite this, tapping into trends could potentially increase interest and engagement. The feature is currently available to a small number of channels that publish videos in English, with plans for expanded access in the near future.
