TikTok has unveiled multiple privacy and security enhancements on Data Privacy Day, including expanded data protection measures and new educational initiatives, as announced by Caroline Goulding, TikTok's Data Protection Officer.
New Privacy Features and Educational Tools
The platform has launched two major initiatives: TikTok Facts, a myth-busting series about digital privacy, and The TikTok Privacy Studio, an immersive educational experience focused on privacy practices. Additionally, TikTok introduced the Global Privacy Center to improve transparency about data protection methods.
Enhanced Security Infrastructure
In Europe, TikTok's Project Clover has partnered with cybersecurity firm NCC Group for continuous monitoring and verification of data security. In the United States, the company's U.S. Data Security (USDS) program has established partnerships with HaystackID and OnDefend to strengthen data protection measures.
AI Content Safety Measures
TikTok has become the first social media platform to implement the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA)'s Content Credentials technology for AI-generated content labeling. The platform has also expanded its guidelines against harmful AI-generated content and joined industry efforts to combat deceptive AI-generated election content.
Cybersecurity Achievements
Through its partnership with HackerOne, TikTok has awarded over $2 million in bounties to security researchers since 2020. The platform continues to run its #BeCyberSmart campaign and @TikTokTips channel to educate users about cybersecurity best practices.
