TikTok is enhancing its collaboration with the National PTA to promote online safety for teens and families. This partnership aims to empower parents and communities to help teens navigate the digital world safely and foster positive online behavior. Building on their recent initiative with the Family Online Safety Institute, TikTok is launching the Digital Safety Partnership for Families, a resource tailored to family online safety needs.
Create with Kindness Program
TikTok, as a PTA Connected sponsor, supports National PTA's initiatives on digital safety, well-being, access, equity, and literacy. This year, TikTok is providing over $300,000 in funding to 100 local and regional PTSAs across high schools in America to implement the Create with Kindness program. This interactive program facilitates conversations between teens and their families about online safety and civility, and helps create positive digital boundaries.
The program includes:
- Breakout conversations between teens and parents about content and creators they enjoy.
- Panel discussions with teens sharing the support they need from trusted adults.
- Interactive role-playing to navigate real-world challenges.
- Deep dives into TikTok's safety tools and resources to safeguard family experiences on the platform.
The funding helps PTSAs overcome barriers like translation services, childcare, or meals to host inclusive community events. The Create with Kindness toolkit, available for free on the National PTA's website, includes a planning guide, facilitator's guide, presentation, and promotional materials.
Marquee Events
National PTA and TikTok will co-host five marquee events with PTSA high school students, parents, caregivers, and faculty. These events will explore online experiences and expectations, deepen knowledge of TikTok's safety features, and include student panels, breakout conversations, dinner, giveaways, and remarks from TikTok, National PTA, and school leaders.
Updated TikTok Guide for Parents
TikTok is also releasing an updated TikTok Guide for Parents, providing an overview of tools to help families create a safe and enjoyable experience. The guide, developed with National PTA, explains TikTok's Family Pairing tool, which allows caregivers to customize content and privacy settings for teens, and outlines age-appropriate settings automatically enabled for younger and older teens.
TikTok's collaboration with National PTA aims to provide families with the tools, support, and resources needed to navigate the digital world safely and positively. By fostering environments rooted in kindness, respect, and understanding, TikTok and National PTA are helping families build safer digital spaces.
