OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has denied a Reuters report suggesting that OpenAI is set to launch a search product on the day before Google’s flagship conference, Google I/O. Altman confirmed there is an OpenAI announcement scheduled for Monday, but it is neither gpt-5 nor a search engine. He described the upcoming announcement as something that "feels like magic."
The official OpenAI post only revealed that the announcement will include updates on ChatGPT and its latest model, GPT-4. Reports from The Verge suggest that OpenAI has been actively recruiting Google employees for a team dedicated to releasing a new product soon. Meanwhile, both Bloomberg and The Information have reported on a search product in development, but without a confirmed launch date.
OpenAI will be streaming live on openai.com at 10AM PT Monday, May 13 to demo some ChatGPT and GPT-4 updates.
