Microsoft, OpenAI plan $100 billion 'Stargate' supercomputer

Stargate is a proposed supercomputer project by Microsoft and OpenAI with an estimated cost of up to $100 billion. Microsoft and OpenAI have a multi-phase plan for AI development. Currently, they are on the third phase, with Microsoft developing a supercomputer for the fourth phase expected to launch in 2026. Additionally, OpenAI's next AI upgrade is reportedly expected to be released early next year.

The partnership between Microsoft and OpenAI has come under scrutiny from E.U. and U.K. regulators. This scrutiny follows a significant investment by Microsoft in OpenAI, the maker of ChatGPT, which has intensified the AI race.
