LinkedIn has introduced a new feature called 'Open to Volunteer' to help members find volunteer opportunities that match their interests and skills. With 75% of LinkedIn members showing interest in volunteering, this tool aims to connect them with nonprofit organizations.
Key Features
- Profile Update: Members can select the volunteer option from the “Open to” drop-down menu under their profile picture. They can then specify the causes they support, their skills, preferences, location, and whether they prefer in-person or virtual volunteering.
- Profile Display: Once completed, the member’s volunteer interests will be displayed at the top of their profile. They also have the option to share a post with their network expressing their interest in volunteering.
- Volunteer Opportunities: LinkedIn collaborates with volunteer aggregators in the U.S., U.K., Ireland, and more, offering hundreds of thousands of volunteer opportunities across various causes such as education, economic empowerment, disaster relief, and social services. These opportunities include skills-based projects, mentorship, and board service for nonprofit organizations.
- Enhanced Search and Alerts: Once the 'Open to Volunteer' option is selected, LinkedIn will surface the most relevant volunteer opportunities in search based on the member’s preferences. Members can also opt to receive alerts for opportunities that may fit their profile.
Benefits
- Skill Development: Volunteering helps in developing in-demand skills such as communication and empathy.
- Community Connection: It fosters a greater sense of purpose and inspires connection within communities.
This new feature aims to make it easier for LinkedIn members to find meaningful volunteer opportunities that align with their skills and interests, thereby enhancing their professional and personal growth.
