Google has implemented several significant changes to Looker Studio, including new limitations on scheduled emails and feature availability differences between standard and Pro versions.
New Email Quotas for Standard Users
Looker Studio has introduced quotas for scheduled emails that limit the number of recipients users can send reports to on both daily and monthly bases. These restrictions apply to standard Looker Studio users but do not affect Looker Studio Pro subscribers.
It's important to note that even Pro users will face these limitations for reports stored in their "Owned by me" folder, as these are classified as personal reports subject to quotas. To avoid these restrictions, Pro users can upgrade specific reports to Looker Studio Pro status.
Pro-Exclusive Features for Scheduled Emails
Several email functionality features are now available exclusively for Looker Studio Pro reports:
- The "Send Now" option for immediate email delivery of reports
- Custom Subject and Messages capabilities for email personalization
- Image in Preview functionality that includes report previews in emails
For existing standard users, any previously created custom messages in scheduled emails will remain intact, though users will no longer be able to edit these messages without upgrading to Pro.
Like the quota restrictions, these features are unavailable for reports in the "Owned by me" folder, even for Pro subscribers, unless the specific report is upgraded to Pro status.
Data Preview Feature Now Generally Available
On a positive note for all users, the data source editor now provides a preview of data in fields. This enhancement has moved from testing to general availability, making it accessible to all Looker Studio users regardless of subscription level.
