Google AdSense is updating how first-party cookies are managed to simplify controls and enhance access to third-party demand.
Key Changes
- Unified Control: The controls for "first-party cookies" and "first-party cookies for personalization" are now combined into a single control. Enabling this new control will activate first-party cookies for the publisher, share them with demand sources, and enable all usages, including personalization.
- Transition Aid: The new control will be set according to your existing personalization settings to facilitate a smooth transition.
Sharing with Authorized Buyers
- Current Sharing: First-party cookies are currently shared with Google demand sources (Google Ads, Display & Video 360).
- Future Sharing: Starting no earlier than December 4th, 2024, first-party cookies will also be shared with Authorized Buyers, excluding users in the EEA, Switzerland, UK, California, and some US states.
- Default Settings: If using first-party cookies for personalization, sharing with Authorized Buyers will be on by default. If using first-party cookies without personalization, sharing will remain off.
