Summary
A study of 1.7 million SERP positions and 20,000 keywords across 15 markets found that 56% of Google's top three positions are held by ccTLDs. However, ccTLDs can be expensive and inefficient to manage. The study also found an inverse correlation between gTLDs with no market subdomains or subdirectories and ccTLDs. Subdirectories are the second most common website structure in the top three positions. The study suggests ccTLDs are optimal for International SEO, but require more resources.
