Semrush Sensor started tracking AI Overviews from May 17th, marking the official launch for non-logged in users in the US.
Key statistics reveal:
- AI Overviews appear in 0.55% of desktop searches and 0.81% of mobile searches.
- There was a slight decline in featured snippets from 4.82% to 4.67% on mobile on the launch day, while it remained unchanged on desktop.
- The categories with the most AI overviews were 'Health' (4.64%) and 'People & Society' (4.87%) on mobile.
- On the launch day, featured snippets increased for the 'Health' category but declined for 'People & Society'.
- Some categories like 'Shopping', 'Arts & Entertainment', and 'Food & Drink' have no AI overviews on either device.
Despite being a SERP feature in the US, AI overviews are still rare. It is expected that Google will conduct extensive testing in this area in the coming weeks.
