Google Sheets now supports third-party smart chips, allowing users to pull rich data from partner apps directly into their spreadsheets. Previously available in Google Docs, this feature now extends to Sheets, enabling users to embed content from apps like Asana, Jira & Confluence, Canva, Lucid, Loom, Whimsical, and Zoho Projects.
Key Features
- Smart Chips in Sheets: Users can add smart chips that pull information from third-party apps into Sheets. Pasting third-party chips from Docs into Sheets is also supported.
- Installation: To use third-party smart chips, an admin or user must install the relevant add-on from the Google Workspace Marketplace.
- Usage: Paste a link from a third-party source into your spreadsheet and press "tab" to see the smart chip populate with critical information.
Getting Started
- Admins: Must install or allowlist the specific add-on for the application. Instructions are available in the Help Center.
- Developers: Can learn more about enabling third-party smart chips via the Help Center.
- End Users: Need admin-installed or allowlisted add-ons to use this feature. Links can be converted to smart chips by pasting and selecting "tab" or replacing the link with a chip via the hover card.

- Rapid Release Domains: Gradual rollout starting October 8, 2024 (up to 15 days for visibility).
- Scheduled Release Domains: Gradual rollout starting October 28, 2024 (up to 15 days for visibility).
