OpenAI has introduced a new memory feature in ChatGPT that allows the chatbot to reference past chats, enhancing its ability to provide personalized responses based on users' preferences and interests. This update aims to make interactions smoother and more relevant by building on previous conversations. Users maintain control over this memory feature, with the option to opt out of referencing past chats or memory entirely at any time through settings.
For those who are already opted out of memory, the default setting will also exclude referencing past chats. Users can modify what ChatGPT knows about them simply by asking in the chat. The memory improvements are being rolled out to Plus and Pro users, excluding those in the EEA, UK, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein, with access for Team, Enterprise, and Edu users expected in a few weeks.
The feature, labeled as “reference saved memories” in settings, aims to enhance conversational context across ChatGPT’s text, voice, and image-generation capabilities. OpenAI is committed to eventually making this technology available in the regions that require additional compliance reviews.
