LinkedIn has released its July 2024 API features roundup, introducing several important changes and new functionalities for developers and advertisers. These updates aim to enhance measurement accuracy, expand targeting options, and improve ad customization.
AdAnalytics API Changes
Video Campaigns:
- From July 16, impressions and clicks are only reported when videos start playing.
- May result in decreased Video ad impressions, clicks, and CTRs.
- CPMs, CPCs, and Video View Rates may increase.
- Only applies to videos in LinkedIn feed; LAN/CTV campaigns unaffected.
Sponsored Messaging:
- From July 30, impressions, clicks, and related metrics (CPM, CPC) will no longer be reported.
- Historical data before late July 2024 remains unaffected.
- Recommendation to use 'sends' and 'opens' metrics moving forward.
Sponsored Newsletter Articles:
- New metrics: subscriptionClicks and viralSubscriptionClicks.
- subscriptionClicks: Measures first-click Subscribe button interactions.
- viralSubscriptionClick: Measures Subscribe clicks from shared sponsored articles.
Matched Audiences and Conversions API
Updated email hashing guidelines:
- Convert all email addresses to lowercase before hashing.
- Remove any whitespace in the email address before generating the hash.
Leadgen Forms
- New feature: Custom background images for sponsored content.
- Currently not editable via API; use LinkedIn Campaign Manager for creation and editing.
AdCampaignGroups API
- New option to set objective type for campaign groups.
- Optional and immutable once created.
- All campaigns in the group will share the same objective type if set.
Engagement Retargeting API
- New engagement source types: Document and Conversation ad formats.
- Allows building retargeting audiences based on engagement with these formats.
- Audiences refresh automatically based on trigger and time frame selected.
Breaking Changes
API version deprecation schedule:
- 202308: August 15, 2024
- 202309: September 16, 2024
- 202310: October 15, 2024
Developers advised to migrate to the latest API version to avoid disruptions.

- Measurement methodology for approximateUniqueImpressions will be updated in July to align with approximateMemberReach.
