Grok, Elon Musk's AI chatbot, is now accessible to all users on X without requiring a Premium subscription. This change allows free users to send up to 10 messages to Grok every two hours. Initially launched as a "humorous AI assistant" for Premium subscribers, Grok received a text-to-image generation feature in August, although it produced some controversial images.
xAI had previously tested a free version of Grok in select regions, and this broader availability aims to enhance its competitiveness against free alternatives like OpenAI's ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, and Anthropic's Claude. Additionally, xAI, which recently raised $6 billion in funding, is contemplating the launch of a standalone app for Grok, similar to offerings from its competitors.
