Rajan Patel, VP of Engineering at Google, announced that Google is introducing a more graphical results interface for Search experiences. This new interface goes beyond visual matches to include more links and facts from the Knowledge Graph and AI Overviews.
When using Lens to search for a photo of a landmark, the results will now include a knowledge panel and web links about that place, as if you had searched for the name of the building itself. Patel stated that these richer results will expand to more categories over time.
The new interface is designed to give more websites the opportunity to appear and receive clicks if they have the best information for the visual question. It also enables Google to answer a broader set of questions than before.
In the coming weeks, users can expect more updates to visual query results, including helpful filters for different types of content, similar to what is currently available on Google Search for text queries.
Patel emphasized that these changes are part of Google's ongoing efforts to integrate the helpfulness of AI into Search. This allows Google to better understand what’s shown in an image and use that context to provide more relevant results.
Google has been testing these more graphical and richer search results, as seen in the Google search user interface category.
