Snowflake launched Polaris Catalog, an open data catalog for Apache Iceberg, at its annual data cloud summit. Polaris will be open-sourced in 90 days and can be self-hosted or Snowflake-hosted, interoperating with various query engines. This initiative aims to prevent vendor lock-in and ensure interoperability. The preview will be available later in June, with support from AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, and others.
